Uncommonly Good

I'm just going to admit right now that I have not even started to shop for Christmas. I'm totally a last-minute holiday shopper. Ok, that's not the complete picture--I mean, I do think about gifts before buying them, I don't just grab whatever I find. But, sometimes, it's a struggle to think of something really special. Honestly, I would rather plan the food and the decorations than the gifts, for Christmas. It's kinda hard to find things for certain people. You know what I mean? Or maybe I need to get more creative and be a better planner. Anyway, since we are in the gift-giving time of year, I thought you all might like a few gift ideas from a fabulous company.

I want to introduce you to Brooklyn-based UncommonGoods, a site with truly unique wares. They are passionate about offering beautifully handcrafted items, being green in everything they do, and giving back, to share the wealth. Constantly looking for treasures from around America, and working closely with artists and makers to develop their collections, UncommonGoods is a great source for all of those hard-to-shop-for gift recipients on your holiday shopping list. I was seriously impressed, when I discovered their gorgeous housewares, gift items, and artwork. It was really hard to choose my favourites, but I've narrowed it down to the things I personally would love to have. I hope you will love them, too!

This picture takes me to my happy place.
I just love the handcrafted, timeless look of these housewares (1, 2, 3, and 4).
For a blue mood... this and this
This rug would look so gorgeous in my lounge area!
Gifts for him and for her
I love the abstract quality of this print.
I love the organic look of these decor items (1, 2, 3, and 4). They would all make great housewarming gifts.
I love all things bird-inspired, like this print.
For a leafy look... this and this
I could stare at this paper art for hours.
How adorable is this and this?
I love this beautiful piece, made from a real aspen leaf.

pink loves black

I have loved pink and black together for what seems like forever. Maybe it was growing up in the 80s that made me fall in love with this dramatic, feminine colour pairing. Or maybe it is simply because it's gorgeous. I love it. That's all I know.

Aura Homewares

Today, I'm so excited to share a really beautiful shop with you. In fact, it is my very favourite shop in town! I have been shopping at Aura Homewares since the store opened two years ago. It is always such a pleasure to see all of the beautiful things they have for sale. Everything in the shop is arranged in such a gorgeous way, and the owners, Dianne and Samantha, are super friendly and helpful. I just love this store! I'm sure you will, too.

One day, a few weeks ago, when I was shopping there, I decided that I should share this fabulous store with all of you. How could I keep such a gem all to myself? If you are ever in Gawler, South Australia, such as on your way to or from the amazing Barossa Valley wine region (Gawler is known as the Gateway to the Barossa), then you really should take some time to visit Aura Homewares. Trust me, it will be worth it!

Aura carries beautiful and unique decorative homewares, including furniture, lamps, mirrors, cushions, throws, china, artwork, and candles, as well as lovely clothing, jewelry, and children's decor. I've bought several gifts here, along with a couple of things for myself. What I love most about the merchandise is that it is so eclectic yet cohesive. It's a beautiful mix. The owners say "we spend a lot of time and care to source our range of products from all over the world to ensure our clients have the opportunity to be able to purchase unique and stylish homewares that are not mass-produced".

I had a great time taking photos of this wonderful shop, and I'm so happy to be able to share it with you. Aura Homewares is located at 84 Murray Street, Gawler, South Australia. You can see Aura's website here and go to their Facebook page here.

Modern Glamour

You all know I love a little glamour. Just as accessories make an outfit, such as a gorgeous statement necklace adding the perfect touch to a dress, beautiful decorative accents, unique artworks, and statement-making furniture can make a room.

Furniture company Modani challenged me to reflect my fashion style in a living room. When I looked through my favourite fashion images and my favourite living rooms, I realized that I love seeing a touch of glamour in both.

I'm envisioning a beautiful living room using some of my favourite colours, blue, pink, lilac, grey, white, chocolate, and gold, with a few modern furniture pieces, a handful of glamorous accessories, great lighting, bold patterned textiles, some warm wooden elements, and eye-catching artwork. This is the kind of lounge room I would love to spend busy family days in, and then wind down in the evenings with a nice glass of wine, amid candlelight.

Do you like a little modern glamour in your living room? What stylish decor accents do you love?
