Fabulous Entryways

Isn't it amazing, when you walk into a gorgeous colour or pattern, upon entering a room?

I love seeing intense hues and fabulous wallpapers in entryways. They make such a bold statement. I think the best entryways make you smile as soon as you open the door, and--even better, make you kind of catch your breath, as you wonder what other marvelous things await you in the rest of the house.

Having said all of that, I know that many of us do not have such bold, beautiful entryways--if we have any entry at all. The house I'm living in now has no entryway, just a hallway going from the front door to the main open-plan space. I'm daydreaming now, wanting a house with a gorgeous entryway.

I'll let you in on a little secret... Tomorrow, my fiance and I are going to look at a house that is straight out of 1977. As awful as that sounds, I've been obsessed with looking at it online all week! It has lots of hideously outdated features going on, including an entryway with built-in planter and water feature, which looks like something out of an office waiting room in the late 70s, and must have been the height of chic back then. I want to take a sledgehammer to it, and turn the entryway into something as beautiful as the images in this post. I do love some of the 70s looks of the house, especially the vaulted ceiling with exposed beams in the living-dining room (you all know I adore vaulted ceilings!). I can sense the home's potential for fabulousness. It's the salmon pink countertops in the kitchen, mustard yellow bathtub and sink in the bathroom, and the ugly tiles that I'm opposed to. But, don't worry, I can embrace the groovy 70s vibe for a little while. I'm picturing us having a disco-themed house-warming party, while the place still has its time capsule charm.

I'll let you know if we end up taking a trip back in time and buying this crazy house. In the meantime, I hope you will enjoy my entryway fantasies.

Colours, Quirks, & Collages

Rooms with the most personality, the most intriguing moods--really, the most memorable spaces--seem to me to always have something special about them, whether it's gorgeous colours, an interesting display of artwork, or a unique, quirky element. Such rooms must be a true pleasure to live in, making you feel relaxed, inspired, and refreshed. At least, that's how I feel, when looking at images like these. I hope you do, too.

My Dream Bedroom

I've been thinking a lot about The Dream House lately, and today I'm envisioning my dream bedroom. Being of a romantic nature, and a lover of all things feminine and pretty (in case you haven't noticed), I would love to have my bedroom be a sophisticated, romantic space.

I'm picturing a colour scheme of lilac, mocha, and grey, with a bit of pale pink, aqua, and black for accent colours. The walls would be a subtle grey-lilac, with a shimmery wallpapered feature wall behind the bed. The floor would be a dark wood. The bed would have a dark grey tufted headboard, preferably a bit taller than average, to lean against comfortably, for reading in bed. There would be a fabulously huge and organised closet, of course. I'd want a beautiful chandelier, pretty mirrors, and gorgeous fabrics. I have a vintage print by Alberto Vargas, which I'm going to frame and hang in the bedroom. For some Old Hollywood-style glamour, I would love to have a mirrored vanity and an elegant chaise longue or small sofa, to sit on. Lovely accents, like vintage glass bowls to hold jewelry, and a pair of beautiful bedside lamps, would add some pretty finishing touches.

I've been so inspired by the incredibly beautiful range of furniture at The French Bedroom Company. If I could, I would love to get a bunch of pieces from their amazing collections. I'm smitten with the old-fashioned romantic feel of their furniture. Maybe one day, they will come to Australia. A girl can dream!

Until G and I build or buy The Dream House, I'm going to keep daydreaming about each space (obsessively!). Then, when it finally happens, I'll know exactly how to create the perfect home--I just have to convince G to agree with all of my design choices. That is wishful thinking!

P.S. Baby update... I'm due in about two weeks, just so you all know. If I disappear for a bit, I'm probably a little busy with, oh, you know, labour and life-with-a-new-baby kinda stuff. I have been telling myself that I'll prepare a week's worth of blog posts, to stay on the ball, but, honestly, I don't really see that happening. It's quite exhausting to be heavily pregnant, so I'm trying to take it easy, and just wait for the big event. But, don't worry! I will be posting as often as possible, and as beautiful material as ever, I promise! Stay tuned...!
