Lovely Textiles by Imogen Heath

When I first saw British textile designer Imogen Heath's lovely cushions and bedding, while perusing this blog, I knew I had to learn more about her wares. Heath draws inspiration for her fabric designs from her everyday life, and from her journeys between her home in Brighton and the English countryside.

‘My design process is all about retaining the same feeling of excitement and Joy that comes to me when I have an idea for a pattern, or when I draw something for the first time. I hope that by successfully taking these feelings through to the finished piece I can somehow bring that same delight into people’s surroundings.’ - Imogen Heath

You can find Imogen Heath's beautiful range of textiles here.

Today I'm daydreaming of...

A bright sunlit space... with white walls (no surprise there!), dark wood floors... decorated with blush pink, subtle blue, grey, black, and gold... soft pale wood elements... along with plenty of charming flea market finds... mixed with sleek modern pieces, fabulous lighting, and sparkling mirrors... Yes, I think that would do quite nicely.

House-hunting update: This morning, G found a house in our favourite part of town, with views of our favourite park, and the hills beyond--at a price within our budget, which was incredible. We jumped in the car to go drive by the house. With our heart rates increasing, as we drove further up the hill, getting closer and closer to our would-be dream house, we saw the sign out front, with the dreaded words "Under Contract". We were crushed.

In the space of half an hour, we had gone from imagining ourselves living in our dream house, walking down the hill to the park, enjoying beautiful views every day... To a stunning loss of hope, realizing that some other lucky people got to this house first, and staked their claim on it. (Ok, I am being a wee bit dramatic here, but only a  little.)

Searching for our dream home is becoming rather heartbreaking, I must say. We've realized that building is just too damn expensive, and we need to go with Plan B, buying a house, and fixing it up as best we can, while spending as little money as possible. We're holding out hope for finding an almost-perfect house, and having enough money left over to make our home close to what we have been dreaming of.

I heart toile

There is something utterly romantic about toile de jouy prints. Call me old-fashioned, but this kind of pattern, whether it be portraying clandestine lovers in the woods, elegant chinoiserie scenes, or children frolicking in ruffled smocks, toile just makes me swoon. I especially like blue toile, since I'm a cool color kinda gal. Pink toile is very feminine and sweet.

Perhaps my fondness for toile comes from spending lots of time, as a child, closely examining--and getting a bit lost in, the green toile wallpaper of my Aunt Judy's dining room, as my parents played cards with my aunt and uncle. I'm sure my imagination led me on quite an adventure, while I was looking at the idyllic pastoral scenes patterning that room.

Now I would be happy to have just a spot of toile in my own space, such as a toile cushion or picture frame. But, if you are daring enough to go for grande, why not do a whole room?
