Remembering Oscar de la Renta

Looking back at the many, many beautiful fashions designed by Oscar de la Renta over the years, I found myself saying, over and over, "Oh, this one was a favourite"... Then I had a moment of recognition. You see, I have always thought that there are so many incredibly talented, unique fashion designers in the world that I could not possibly choose a favourite. But, now, I know I do have a favourite designer, and it would have to be the late Oscar de la Renta. His feminine, glamorous dresses make me swoon.

His passing this week has made me cherish his gifts of beauty to the world even more than ever before. I know I'm far from alone in saying that he was truly a great designer, one whose remarkable fashions will continue to inspire us for many years to come. He will be missed.

Here are 20 of my favourite Oscar de la Renta designs. I could have included many more images, but these will have to suffice as my tribute to this beloved fashion designer.

Fab Frock Friday | Tex Saverio

This evening I have had the pleasure of discovering the enchanting work of Indonesian fashion designer Tex Saverio. Having stumbled upon a couple of images of a bridal gown he designed, my search led me to find out that he designed a wedding gown for The Hunger Games film (which I have yet to watch). His haute couture and bridal collections are incredibly theatrical and glamorous--I would even say "mythical", as you can see.

Fab Frock Friday | Like An Angel

"You're an angel, baby... You must be an angel..."

Madonna's song "Angel" just came into my mind, as I was looking at these images.

This ethereal white gown from the Alexander McQueen FW 2014 collection takes my breath away! The enchanting details of the embroidery--the stars, suns, moons--evoke visions of celestial goddesses in ancient fairy tales. What do you think?

Fab Frock Friday: Valentino FW 2014 RTW

Valentino's FW 2014 ready-to-wear collection was full of the most ethereal, otherworldly dresses, embellished with exquisite embroidery, pretty prints, and shimmery beadwork. Beautifully detailed birds and butterflies bedeck a few of the dresses, while animals and dark florals played across other frocks. Capes suitable for a fairytale lass topped some of the looks, adding a cozy element. My favourite was a pale grey sheer gown, with frosty-looking leaves, perfect for a winter goddess. As I sit here, donning a sweater for the first time this autumn, I'm happily slipping into a cool mood, while gazing upon this beautiful collection.
