Isn't it amazing, when you walk into a gorgeous colour or pattern, upon entering a room?
I love seeing intense hues and fabulous wallpapers in entryways. They make such a bold statement. I think the best entryways make you smile as soon as you open the door, and--even better, make you kind of catch your breath, as you wonder what other marvelous things await you in the rest of the house.
Having said all of that, I know that many of us do not have such bold, beautiful entryways--if we have any entry at all. The house I'm living in now has no entryway, just a hallway going from the front door to the main open-plan space. I'm daydreaming now, wanting a house with a gorgeous entryway.
I'll let you in on a little secret... Tomorrow, my fiance and I are going to look at a house that is straight out of 1977. As awful as that sounds, I've been obsessed with looking at it online all week! It has lots of hideously outdated features going on, including an entryway with built-in planter and water feature, which looks like something out of an office waiting room in the late 70s, and must have been the height of chic back then. I want to take a sledgehammer to it, and turn the entryway into something as beautiful as the images in this post. I do love some of the 70s looks of the house, especially the vaulted ceiling with exposed beams in the living-dining room (you all know I adore vaulted ceilings!). I can sense the home's potential for fabulousness. It's the salmon pink countertops in the kitchen, mustard yellow bathtub and sink in the bathroom, and the ugly tiles that I'm opposed to. But, don't worry, I can embrace the groovy 70s vibe for a little while. I'm picturing us having a disco-themed house-warming party, while the place still has its time capsule charm.
I'll let you know if we end up taking a trip back in time and buying this crazy house. In the meantime, I hope you will enjoy my entryway fantasies.

Well, we will not be moving into the groovy 70s house. It was way too small for our family. Lots of people were at the showing today. I'm sure the house will be snapped up quickly, since it's such a low price for the suburb it's in. Oh well. I'm sure we will find something better.
